Cyborg Encounters: Three Art-Science Interactions

Abstract This contribution includes three selected works from an exhibition on Cyborg Encounters . These deal with hybrid connections of human and non-human species that (might) emerge as a result enhancement technologies bio-technological developments. They offer not only artistic exploration contemporary but also futuristic aspects the subject. Followed by introduction Melike Şahinol, Critically Endangered Artwork (by Ayşe Melis Okay) highlights Turkey’s ongoing problems food poverty amount decreasing agricultural lands. It displays seeds promising endemic plant to mitigate these using Thermopsis Turcica , herbaceous perennial plant. Ecomasculinist Pregnancy Burak Taşdizen Charles John McKinnon Bell) follows design fiction methodology illustrates future scenario through patient’s diary medical letters he receives during his pregnancy extinct sea-lion. Polluted Homes Beyza Dilem Topdal) is fictional art installation consisting polychaete evolved in time under ecological circumstances prevalent Bosphorus Sea Marmara today. show, manufacturing life has consequences, for body its physical appearance, also, example, gender orders, social structure society, even environment, thus (re)shaping (non)living matter their environments. Art-Science Collection intends provide impetus debate about extent which cyborg encounters should be taken seriously.
